RX2 MULTI-CHANNEL RECEIVER: TRI-BAND RF-TO-ETHERNET WITH BUILT-IN DIVERSITY COMBINING

The telemetry receiver sits at the very beginning of the ground station data chain, and its performance determines the fundamental quality ceiling for everything that follows. A receiver that loses lock during a critical test maneuver, introduces excessive bit errors during a low-elevation-angle pass, or fails to handle the full range of waveforms transmitted by modern test articles creates problems that no amount of downstream processing can fully correct. The Rx2 multi-channel receiver from Parraid was engineered to eliminate these concerns, providing tri-band coverage, built-in diversity combining, and direct IP output in a single integrated unit.

Tri-Band Frequency Coverage

The Rx2 provides simultaneous coverage across L-band, S-band, and C-band telemetry frequencies, eliminating the need for separate receivers for different frequency allocations. This comprehensive frequency coverage is increasingly important as test programs migrate from legacy S-band allocations to L-band and C-band channels in response to spectrum crowding in the traditional S-band telemetry range. With the Rx2, a single receiver installation handles the full range of possible test article frequency configurations.

Built-In Diversity Combining

Multipath fading and shadowing are constant challenges in airborne telemetry reception, particularly during low-elevation-angle passes and when the test vehicle is maneuvering aggressively. The Rx2 addresses these challenges with a built-in diversity combining function that simultaneously processes inputs from multiple receive antennas and selects the best signal on a bit-by-bit basis. This real-time diversity combining capability significantly improves receive performance without requiring external diversity combining hardware.

Direct IP Output

The Rx2 outputs demodulated telemetry data directly as a standards-compliant IP stream, conforming to the IRIG 106 Chapter 10 over IP specification. This direct IP output eliminates the analog-to-digital conversion equipment traditionally required between the receiver and the recording/processing systems, simplifying the ground station architecture and reducing potential failure points. The IP output connects directly to the ground station network, where it can be accessed simultaneously by any number of recording and processing consumers.

Waveform Support

The Rx2 supports the complete suite of waveforms specified in the IRIG 106 standard for aeronautical mobile telemetry, including PCM/FM, SOQPSK-TG, and multi-symbol CPM variants. Software configurability allows new waveforms to be added through firmware updates, protecting the investment in receiver hardware as the range community continues to evolve its modulation standards.

Integration with Parraid Ground Stations

The Rx2 is designed to integrate seamlessly with the Parraid telemetry ground station ecosystem. Its IP output feeds directly into the EDGE² network appliance for mobile and expeditionary deployments, or directly into the ground station network for distribution to IMUX RE-CON recorders and OMEGA NExT processing workstations.
