The modern telemetry ground network is a dynamic environment. Multiple test articles may be transmitting on different frequency channels, different receive stations may be processing different aircraft, and new data streams may appear and disappear throughout the test day as aircraft depart and recover. Managing recording across this dynamic landscape has traditionally required significant operator attention — configuring individual recording devices for each expected stream, monitoring for unexpected streams, and manually adjusting as the operational picture changes. The IMUX RE-CON network recorder from Parraid changes this paradigm fundamentally.
The IMUX RE-CON continuously monitors the ground network for telemetry streams, using intelligent auto-discovery algorithms to identify new streams as they appear. When a new IRIG 106 Chapter 10 or Chapter 11 stream is detected on the network, the RE-CON automatically begins recording it without operator intervention. This capability means that data capture begins as soon as the first telemetry packet arrives from a test article — there is no risk of missing the beginning of a flight because an operator was still configuring the recorder.
The RE-CON supports both Chapter 10 over IP and IRIG 106 Chapter 11 recording, handling the full range of stream formats encountered on modern test ranges. It can simultaneously record streams in both formats, creating separate, format-appropriate files for each stream. The auto-discovery system identifies the format of each incoming stream automatically, eliminating the need for operators to pre-configure expected stream formats.
Flight test programs generate enormous volumes of recorded data, particularly as data rates increase with denser sensor suites and higher-bandwidth data buses. The RE-CON's storage architecture is designed to handle sustained high-throughput recording across multiple simultaneous streams without dropouts or buffering artifacts. Storage capacity is scalable, accommodating both short, high-intensity test events and long-duration flight test operations.
RE-CON integrates seamlessly within the Parraid telemetry ground station architecture, complementing both real-time and post-mission workflows. Recorded IRIG Chapter 10 files can be ingested directly into OMEGA NExT, the real-time decommutation, data distribution, and archiving engine—for playback and analysis or processed through the Best Data Engine (BDE), Parraid’s Best Source Selector, to generate composite best-source files. For programs leveraging the EDGE² appliance for mobile or distributed receive operations, RE-CON serves as the network-based recording solution, capturing and preserving all telemetry data delivered across the network from the edge.
Beyond its technical capabilities, the RE-CON's greatest operational advantage is simplicity. On a busy test range where operators are managing multiple simultaneous activities, any reduction in the configuration burden translates directly to reduced risk of operator error. The RE-CON's auto-discovery and auto-record capability allows operators to focus on higher-value tasks while confident that all telemetry appearing on the network is being captured.
