G3 TMOIP DATA PROCESSING: THE NEXT GENERATION OF TELEMETRY RECORDING PLATFORMS

The flight test range has undergone a quiet revolution over the past decade. What was once a tightly coupled system of analog components has become a distributed IP network and the equipment at the center of that network has had to evolve accordingly. The G3 TMoIP data processing platform from Parraid represents a next-generation recording and processing system designed from the ground up for the IP-based range architecture, combining high-throughput recording with intelligent data distribution in a single integrated platform.

A Platform Built for IP-Based Ranges

The G3 accepts telemetry data exclusively over its network interfaces, embracing the IP-based range architecture rather than accommodating legacy analog connectivity as an afterthought. This clean design enables the G3 to optimize its entire architecture for IP data handling, delivering network interface speeds, processing capabilities, and storage throughput that match the demands of modern high-data-rate test programs. The G3 supports both Chapter 10 over IP and native Ethernet data streams, making it compatible with both legacy TMoIP systems and newer networked FTI architectures.

Simultaneous Recording and Distribution

One of the G3's defining capabilities is its ability to simultaneously record incoming telemetry streams to local storage while distributing them to multiple downstream consumers over the network. This means a single G3 can act as both the primary recorder and the distribution hub for a test range, eliminating the need for separate recording and distribution infrastructure. Distribution supports both unicast and multicast delivery, allowing the G3 to serve an arbitrary number of simultaneous consumers.

Integration with OMEGA NExT

The G3 is designed as the data ingestion and recording layer of a larger processing architecture that includes OMEGA NExT for real-time decommutation and display. In this configuration, the G3 receives and records the incoming telemetry stream while simultaneously distributing a copy to the OMEGA NExT workstation for real-time processing. Engineers see engineering unit data in real-time, while the G3 ensures a complete, pristine recording is being created for post-flight analysis. OMEGA NExT software includes data extraction, distribution, and simulation utilities, and includes unlimited local and client display support for real-time and playback operation.

Scalability for Multi-Source Environments

Modern test ranges often operate multiple simultaneous receive stations, each generating independent telemetry streams from different antennas or different test articles. The G3's multi-stream architecture handles this naturally, recording multiple simultaneous streams to separate files or channels while maintaining time correlation between streams. This capability is essential for programs that operate multiple simultaneous test vehicles or require geographic diversity in their receive infrastructure.

Reliability and Redundancy

The G3 implements a redundant recording architecture that writes incoming data to multiple storage paths simultaneously, ensuring a hardware failure in any single component does not result in data loss. Storage capacity is scalable through the addition of drive modules.
