The requirements for real-time telemetry processing vary enormously across different applications. A development bench test may require monitoring of a few dozen parameters from a single data stream, while a major developmental flight test program may require simultaneous processing of thousands of parameters from multiple simultaneous streams, with redundant processing paths and remote access capability. A scalable real-time telemetry processing architecture must address both of these extremes and everything in between with a consistent software environment and hardware platform that avoids costly re-engineering as program requirements evolve.
Real-time telemetry processing begins with decommutation of incoming PCM or IP data streams, continues with calibration and engineering unit conversion, and culminates with distribution of processed parameter values to display and limit monitoring systems. All of these steps must be completed with latency low enough that the displayed values accurately represent the current state of the test article, which are typically within 100 milliseconds or less of data generation. And the system must sustain this performance under the maximum expected data rate without dropouts or buffering.
The S-5000e data processor provides the hardware-accelerated processing power at the core of Parraid's real-time telemetry processing architecture. Its configurable architecture scales from single-stream bench test applications to multi-stream flight test deployments without software changes, enabling programs to start with a single-stream configuration and expand to multi-stream capability as program requirements grow. This scalability protects the investment in the processing platform across the full lifecycle of the test program.
The OMEGA NExT software environment provides the operator interface, parameter database management, display configuration, and limit monitoring capabilities that complete the real-time telemetry processing system. OMEGA NExT runs on standard commercial hardware, enabling organizations to leverage the commodity server market for cost-effective processing infrastructure without the obsolescence risk associated with proprietary hardware platforms.
Large flight test programs may require processing capability distributed across multiple workstations, each handling a subset of the total parameter load. OMEGA NExT's client-server architecture supports this distributed processing model, allowing processing load to be distributed across multiple S-5000e units while presenting a unified display environment to operators. This architecture also supports remote access, enabling engineers at off-site facilities to access processed data in real time over the network.
The Parraid telemetry processing ecosystem, from the Rx2 receiver through the IMUX G2e recorder and S-5000e processor to OMEGA NExT is designed to scale seamlessly with program requirements. Each component is available in configurations that span a wide range of capability levels, and the components are designed to work together with minimal integration effort.
